Personal day, Solo Date, Me Time. Whatever you'd like to call it, it really is essential. I've never been one to treat myself to time alone. My self-care habits have mostly included massages, new clothes, an extra coffee, or new Coloupop Lippie Stix. But recently, on a day when I was feeling particularly absent-minded, I decided to really treat myself. I called into work, and headed to the movie theatre.
Bought myself not only a seat for the afternoon showing of Kong: Skull Island (which was great, btw), but also splurged on the million dollar popcorn/drink/candy combo that cost more than a semester of textbooks. Now did that feel like a real treat.
There is a special kind of giddiness that comes with being alone in a movie theatre on a Wednesday afternoon, with a big bag of butter-imitation popcorn, a large cup of carbonated Drain-O, and some "naturally and artificially flavored" Twizzlers. My inner child was screaming with joy, playing hooky from real world adult things.
What I learned from this glorious afternoon? Going off-grid was so much more fulfilling than dropping a paycheck at the mall. Granted, I'm still a sucker for Colourpop, but I will be taking advantage of these little afternoons to myself a lot more often.
Life is complicated, that's a given. I'm here to talk through the rough patches, and celebrate the successes of adulthood as a millennial travel professional.
